Premium wines from Llangibby Estate in South Australia
Llangibby Estate was purchased by the 3 partners in 1997
and planted to vines in October 1998. The name was chosen because the property
reminded them of the picturesque Llangibby Estate near
Usk in south east Wales.
The Llangibby Estate in Wales has been in the Addams Williams
family for over 400 years. Beneath the ancient castle a magnificent house
was built for Sir Trevor Williams in the 17th century. The Llangibby
Estate vineyard crests a ridge close to Echunga in the Adelaide
Hills, Australia at a height of 360 metres. Select parcels of premium grapes
are handpicked for the Llangibby Estate label each year, producing some
superb examples of cool climate wine making.
2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Harvested in the evening to capture the cool climate fruit characters
at their best. Zesty flavours, fragrant nose and crisp palate. This is a
wine slightly lower in alcohol than previous vintages. A delightful aperitif
or companion to seafood.
2005 Tempranillo, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon
A smooth, dry wine blended from three classic varieties with 50% Tempranillo,
30% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet. Tempranillo drives the blend with its aromatic
cherry and plum overtones. Shiraz and Cabernet add richness and weight to
the structure. Distinctive and powerful: testimony to a great vintage.
2005 Pinot Noir
We see the delivery of a great pinot as a 20-30 year project. Our half acre
block was planted in 1998 and has produced good wines in 2002, 2003 and
now 2005. Each year with maturing vines, we improve our pruning and canopy
management techniques to strive for better fruit. The 2005 vintage is a
robust wine with characteristic cherry and raspberry nose, good depth of
colour, big mouth feel and a well rounded finish. Enhanced by 12 months
in French oak. Value for money this is one of the best Australian Pinots
on the market.
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a red with character , grown in cool climate conditions. Bags of
flavour. Nothing understated with blackberry and mulberry overtones to the
fore. Deep red in colour , plenty of body, with excellent nose and hints
of dark chocolate on the palate.
2002 Tempranillo
There are just on 30 cases left of this, the first Tempranillo under the
Llangibby label. The fruit was picked at almost perfect ratios of acid and
ph. with baume at 14.6. The wine was aged in a mix of American and French
oak for 16 months. The colour is arterial, while the nose is wild blackberry
with a hint of dark cherry. On the palate it has length with delightful
spicy overtones.
In Barrel
2007 Pinot Noir.
